I have always been good at math and science, and interested in technology, but you're probably wondering how that leads to one becoming an attorney. Prior to pursuing my law degree, I served in the military as an aircraft navigator. With no jobs in that field outside of the military, after fulfilling my active duty I thought I'd give law school a try. With strong family ties to the legal profession and a passion for serving others, it seemed like it could be the best fit for my future- and it was.

HOW I BECAME A PATENT ATTORNEY

While I was in law school, I discovered that to be a patent law attorney you need to have a background in engineering and science. This is such a specialized area of law that less than five percent of lawyers even qualify to pursue it, but thankfully I was among those with the right combination of experience and interest. After obtaining my Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from Gonzaga University, I was accepted into the University of Houston Law Center to pursue my Master of Laws (LL.M) degree in Intellectual Property Law.

I graduated with my LL.M in 1998, and had the opportunity to work for a couple of large corporate law firms and was trained to be a successful patent attorney. After five years of gaining some great experience, I felt ready to strike out on my own and help people on my terms.

STARTING MY OWN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY FIRM

My wife and I decided to pack up and move from Houston and settle down in Lexington, Kentucky. We found ourselves in this beautiful community and knew immediately that it would be the place we call home.

Since 2005, I have been serving individuals and businesses of Lexington and across the state with high-quality legal services to protect their rights and valuable intellectual property. In more than a decade of private practice, I have assisted clients in obtaining patents, trademarks, and copyrights as well as protecting their rights through licensing, litigation, and more.
